The Raiders have a Guardian Angel, his name is Vernon Lee Mann

This afternoon is a sad day in The Mann household. Josh's Grandfather peacefully passed away in Amarillo, Texas.
Pop was an amazing man, so much fun. He NEVER once missed one of Josh's games growing up. He watched every little league, every high school and every college game that Josh played in.
When Josh got his first job as a Coach back at Wichita Falls High School, Pop was right there sitting in the stands watching him Coach. Pop had a stroke in December of 2004, and after that his visits were more limited. HOWEVER, Pop still didn't miss a game! He listened to EVERY Cedar Park game on the computer and then was sure to call me DURING the games. One time during the Pflugerville versus Cedar Park game in 2006, I pulled out my cell phone to call Dorothy and I had 17 missed calls- 16 of them were from Pop, the other was my Grandpa! ha
And he called me EVERY Friday morning too, wanting to know "What that coach thought the game was gonna go like" and then like clockwork as the game was over and I was headed to the field house, I would get my call. When we won, it was a great conversation, when we lost, I was having to give HIM a pep talk! He coached just as much as Josh did! ha. On Monday's he would want to know what we were going to need to do to get ready for the next opponent.
It was Pop that actually started getting ME excited about the upcoming season. In the middle of the summer, he would call me weekly and give me the weekly countdown till the first game. When it was about 30 days out, I knew to start making signs for the games:)
Pop was Josh's biggest cheerleader. He LOVED Football and he loved each and every one of his Grandkids and Great-Grandkids. He was an ex-Marine that served in WWII and he was also a fireman in Panhandle

Pop was married to Josh's Grandmother for 64 years. They were one of the sweetest couples I have ever seen!! He loved her with every bit of his heart and I have no doubt that he will be with her everyday.

Josh went to visit him at the beginning of June and Pop told him that when Josh wins a State Championship that he wanted Josh to look up into the sky and say "That's for you Pop".... I pray that one day we get to say that to him:)
Here are pictures of Pop with us at the very last game that Pop was able to attend. He has front row seats (sideline) and he absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. We are so thankful that he was able to come see 2 Raider games.
I am going to miss my Football Season phone calls, but I am so glad that he will be in Heaven watching down on us playing under the Friday Night Lights. I am sure in Josh's mind, each game will be dedicated to Pop.

Coach and the New Mrs. Knight!

We have a new addition to our coaches wives! Coach Knight married his super sweet girlfriend of several years, Tamara Spraker on Saturday night in Round Rock. We had a great time at their beautiful wedding and we are not only lucky, but happy to welcome to Tamara as a Raider. (She's been a Raider since the opening of the school, but now she's just official:)
Congrats to the Knights!!!

Jonathan Stewart!
I am such a nerd. I was about as start struck as they come. I had NO idea that meeting someone that is famous would be so intimidating. I literally had nothing to say that was meaningful. I spent more time trying to decide what to say than actually talking to him. So I just listened, which was probably best anyway. I would hate to babble off some football stuff and only to realize I have no idea what I am talking about.
However, even if this had been the case, I doubt he would have made me feel dumb. Jonathan Stewart was so nice. He was humble and he actually acted like he was happy to be there. He asked Josh lots of questions and he made sure to talk to every kid that came up to him. He signed about 100 autographs and he took more pictures than I would have wanted to!
Zack Pelt was in awe of him and it was really cute to watch him sit and stare, because honestly, I was pretty much doing the same thing that Zack was. We were both just staring and smiling!
We really appreciate him coming out and being so nice as to come talk to our athletes. He did a fantastic job. He talked about being Extraordinary- emphasizing the EXTRA part. I video taped most of his speech. My arms kept getting tired, so I have to take a break every now and then, but I got most of it!!

Wednesday Morning Spring Ball Practice!
I took the boys to today's practice and I have to say that standing there watching the boys, hell I was even fired up! It was high tempo, high energy, lots of emotion and a whole lot of hollering! Both offense and defense had a great practice. It was fun and made me just frustrated with the fact that there is still 3 months, 1 week and 1 day left before the first game. I mean this is just mean and its such a freaking tease!!
However, I am excited about Friday and Saturday. The dinner will be a lot of fun. The parents will get to meet all of our new coaches and their families and we get to meet Jonathan Stewart which I am PUMPED about. In fact, I am so excited that I may just glue myself to him the entire night. I mean we draft this guy in our Fantasy League for crying out loud! I am so excited and I can't wait to take a picture with him. I will definitely be face booking THAT.
So, here I am getting excited about the running back, so lets get back to the Raider business. We are having a lot of good practices with lots of improvements all the way around. We still have a ways to go, but we are getting there!
Here are some video and pictures for your enjoyment.
The second to last video is hilarious! Judson I guess gets bored and in the middle of Josh's speech, he is turning around giving me a thumbs down. I am glad none of the players could see him because I am sure he would have distracted them, which would anger Josh I am sure of it! ha
